How to Install Linux Centos Remotely with VNC

This guide will show you how to install Centos 6 machine remotely using vnc that comes from dvd-installation. Remotely here doesn’t mean full-remote, but we must make a physical contact first to insert dvd installation into server cdroom, and set a little configuration to prepare for the remote action.

Here’s the step by step instruction :

A. CONFIGURATION IN REMOTED MACHINE

1. Insert Centos 6.0 DVD-Installation
2. Set Bios to Boot from DVDROM first
3. After reboot, you can see the welcome screen below:
   
4. Interrupt by pressing Escape button (esc) to enter the boot command:
   
5. Type command below:
   
   linux vnc vncpassword=your-vnc-password
6. Press Retry when you see Network Error below
   
7. Press skip button to Skip from media-test
   
8. Configure TCP IP for IPv4 support and manual configuration.
   
9. Assign IP Address according to your LAN segments
   
10. (1) The vnc server start running, (2) We can connect with the password we have set before (in step number 5), (3) We can connect using vnc client with the ip address we have set (in step number 9), and using port:1 as vnc server told us [ 192.168.1.2:1 ]
    

B. CONNECT REMOTELY FROM WINDOWS MACHINE FOR INSTALLATION PROGRESS

1. Open your vnc client, and fill the server field with ip address vnc server
   
2. Type the vnc password
   
3. Enjoy your installation remotely from your seat.
